Abstract

1430110 Photographically producing identification cards; contact screens S MATSUMOTO and E MATSUMOTO 27 April 1973 [27 April 1972] 20025/73 Heading G2A G2M and G2X A method of producing an identification card from an original having a continuous tone area e.g. a photograph, comprises exposing a lightsensitive film to'an image of the original, the film being exposed through a contact screen over that portion of the image corresponding to the continuous tone area, the remaining portion of the image falling unmodified on to the film. Apparatus for carrying out the method comprises masks 13 (not shown) and 16, a plate 1 with mounting pins 3 for supporting the original 7, a light proof chamber 10a housing a plate 5 with pins 6 for supporting the light-sensitive film 12 and masks (13), 16 and a lens system 4 incorporating exposure means. The mask 16 is opaque 18 apart from area 17 which corresponds to the continuous tone area and is a contact screen, e.g. having lines of dots. The other mask (13) is opaque and transparent respectively in the areas corresponding to the areas 17 and 18 of the mask 16. The film is exposed to the image of the original, first through one mask then through the other. The film may then be developed to form a negative from which a positive is produced.
