Abstract

1429928 Transfer-printing apparatus JOHNSON MATTHEY & CO Ltd and C F TAYLOR (UNITY DESIGNS) Ltd 11 April 1973 [12 April 1972] 16861/72 Heading B6C A machine for applying transfers to a substrate or a plurality of substrates comprises means 26 for removing a transfer from a stack of transfers, means 20 for placing a transfer in contact with the substrate, carriers 9 mounted on arms 8 on a shaft 2 for carrying the transfers from the stack past adhesive activating means 54, 55 (which in the ease of heat activated transfers are heaters) to where they are contacted with the substrate, means 22 for pressing the transfer on to the substrate and means for removing the backing sheet of the transfer after applying the design. The substrates are mounted in carriers 17 on an indexable table 16 rotating oppositely and in synchronism with arms 8. The means 26 comprises suction nozzles which are projected through carrier frames 9 to draw transfers into the carriers and means 20 comprises an annular suction means which pushes the transfer close to the substrate and a plunger for pushing it into "tacking" contact. Means 22 comprises a flexible pressure pad. The stack may be one of two mounted on a rotatable carrier 45 and means are provided for maintaining the uppermost transfer of the stack at a constant height.
