Abstract

1429783 Filters GENERAL MOTORS LTD 7 March 1973 [11 March 1972] 11462/72 Headings B1D and BIT A filter comprises an annular filter element 10 having pleats 3 of substantially rectangular U-shape in section and formed from a resin impregnated paper strip 1 impressed with regularly spaced pairs of fold lines 2 to provide alternative W and M-shaped sections, and with spacers 6, 7 (e.g. ribs, bars, dimples) which together with increased portions 5 at, and optionally between, the ends of the pleats 3 keep adjacent pleat parts apart, mounted on a central perforated tube 11 and adhesively sealed and secured at its ends to annular caps 12. The spacers 7 and, if desired, the spacers 6 taper along their length. The longitudinal edges of strip 1 may be coated with adhesive 16 to bond the ends of the pleats 3 and in such an embodiment the pairs of fold lines forming the creases abutting the tube 11 may merge into one at the edges of the strip.
