Abstract

1429772 Automatic control of speed CAV Ltd 21 March 1973 [4 April 1972] 15356/72 Heading G3R In a system for controlling the fuel supply to an I.C. engine a circuit is provided which cuts off the supply of fuel to the engine if the voltage of a battery supplying power to the system falls below an acceptable level, unless a speed transducer inhibits operation of the circuit when the engine speed is below a predetermined value. In the system shown the output of an A.C. tachogenerator supplies a first diode pump circuit forming part of the speed control system and a second diode pump circuit. Above a certain engine speed the voltage on output capacitor 29 holds transistor 31 off so that transistor 39 can conduct when detector 8 registers a low voltage. Under starting conditions the voltage on capacitor 29 will be low and transistor 31 will conduct so that transistor 39 is held non- conducting. Transistor 39 when it conducts operates safety circuit 9 to control amplifier 17 to cut off the fuel supply to the engine. In a modification the first diode pump circuit may be used to provide the signal allowing transistor 31 to conduct. The control system is similar to that shown in Specifications 1416861 and 1416862.
