Abstract
1429695 Universal joints CLARION CO Ltd 11 Sept 1973 [20 Sept 1972] 42600/73 Heading F2U [Also in Division H3] A control mechanism comprises a control device 2 operated by a first rotatable adjusting shaft 3, a switch 5 operated by axial movement of a second adjusting shaft 4 which is coaxial with the first adjusting shaft 3 and a further control device 16 operated by a third shaft 14 which is coupled to the second shaft 4 by a coupling 6-13 which transmits only rotary movement of the second shaft 4 to the third shaft 14. The coupling includes channel shaped members 6 and 11 coupled by transversely extending pairs of arms which cooperated with slots in legs 7, 8 and 12, 13 of the channel members 6 and 11. As shown an operating shaft 4 for push button switch 5 is rotatable with respect to a rotary shaft 3. An end portion of the shaft 4 is coupled with a hole 6<SP>1</SP> of a metal member 6 which is coupled by a cross member 9, 10 to a metal member 11 so as to form a universal joint between the shaft 4 and a shaft 14. The shaft 14 may be coupled to a tuning shaft 16<SP>1</SP> of a tuner 16 through a further universal joint 15 so that rotation of a control knob mounted on the shaft 4 adjusts the tuner. A volume control 2 may be adjusted by a knob mounted on the operating shaft 3. The push button switch 5, which may be used for switching on and off a power source for a radio receiver, is operated by pressing the operating shaft 4. When the shaft 4 is pressed the switch 5 is closed and remains closed when the shaft 4 returns to its original condition. It is only when the shaft 4 is pressed again that the switch 5 opens. By means of the two shafts it is possible to effect control of the volume or tone and at the same time carry out the operation of the power source switch and the tuner. The mechanism can be used to control other functions such as changeover from one waveband to another or between radio and tape.
