Abstract

1429554 Corrugating tubes CTC AB 23 May 1973 [23 May 1972] 24740/73 Heading B3E [Also in Division F4] The surface of a heat exchange tube is formed with a plurality of spaced groove-shaped depressions 10 and 11 extending helically both in the right hand sense and the left hand sense, the intersecting grooves 10 and 11 forming a diamond-shaped pattern. The grooves on the external surface produce a corresponding pattern of ridges on the internal surface of the tube. A plurality of such tubes may be helically wound between inner and outer cylinder (15 and 16, Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) the tubes being coupled in parallel with the fluid passing through the tubes flowing generally countercurrently to the fluid passing over the tubes. The grooves are formed in the surface of the tube by drawing a plain tube through two tools journalled to rotate about the axis of the tube, each tool comprising a plurality of rollers 23 arranged circumferentially about the axis, with the plane of the rollers forming an acute angle relative to the tube axis.
