Abstract

1429177 Azo dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 9 Aug 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 37356/72 Heading C4P Azo dyes have the formula wherein A represents an optionally substituted aromatic carbocyclic or heterocyclic radical, B is the residue of a coupling component containing an amino group, L is an alkylene, arylene, aralkylene or divalent heterocyclic radical, R is a group -(M) n -H or -M-Q in which M represents an alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene or divalent heterocyclic radical, n is 0 or 1 and Q is -COOH, -OCOZCOOH or -NR<SP>1</SP>-COZ-COOH in which R<SP>1</SP> is H or alkyl and Z is a direct link, alkylene, arylene or aralkylene, said dyes being free from sulphonic acid groups, and the -SO 2 N(R)LQ group being attached to either A or B. The dyes may be prepared by diazotization and coupling by treating the appropriate azo compounds with a suitable dicarboxylic acid or anhydride. The dyes give yellow to blue shades on polyesters, polyamides, polyurethanes polyacrylonitrile and cellulose esters; and blends of the above with natural fibres such as wool and cellulosic fibres.
