Abstract

1428982 Combining inverters MARCONI CO Ltd 31 May 1973 [6 July 1972] 31663/72 Heading H2F In a three-phase A.C. power supply, arranged to be free from momentary interruption, two inverters 9, 9<SP>1</SP> are arranged to operate with phase-displaced outputs and have energy storing devices such as filters 10, 11 connected across said outputs, means for restoring the inphase relationship between their outputs and means for combining the outputs of said restoring means. As described, the 50 Hz mains 3 is supplied via circuit breakers 4 and voltagechanging transformers 5 to rectifiers 6, 6<SP>1</SP> having floating batteries 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and feeding three-phase inverters 9, 9<SP>1</SP> using thyristors (not shown) and having wave-shaping, energy-storing filters 10, 11. The inverters 9, 9<SP>1</SP> operate in quadrature so that, in the event of a momentary interruption or of a transient load, there is always some energy stored by one of the filters 10, 10<SP>1</SP>. The outputs are restored in phase by means of zigzag or star-delta transformers 12, 12<SP>1</SP> before being combined via three-phase circuit-breakers 13, 13<SP>1</SP> in bus-bars 14. The invention is applicable to power supply for computers. Three channels displaced by 60 degrees are also envisaged.
