Abstract

1427030 Measuring lenses CONTACT LENSES (MFG) CO Ltd 28 Dec 1973 [29 Dec 1972] 60103/72 Heading G1M The curvature of a contact lens of soft hydrophilic material is measured while the lens is immersed in water or saline solution by means of an apparatus comprising a vessel 11 having a transparent wall 11 A, a vertical tube 12 having a horizontal upper surface 21 for supporting the lens and a vertical probe 14 movable vertically by means of a micrometer screw 13. A sealing ring 17 is provided between the probe 14 and tube 12. In use, the probe is adjusted to a position in which its tip is level with the top of tube 12 with the aid of eye-piece 18. The lens is placed in position and the probe adjusted to touch the lens. For a convex lens, the tube 12 may be transparent. The tube 12 may be provided with a frusto-conical surface portion 20 at its top inside and/or outside its wall. Micrometer screw 13 may be calibrated in terms of lens curvature.
