Abstract

1426899 Coking of bituminous coal BERGWERKSVERBAND GmbH and DIDIER ENG GmbH 26 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972] 54740/73 Heading C5E Coke is produced from bituminous coal in a high-efficiency horizontal chamber oven at a mean coking rate between 1À2 to 2À8 inches per hour, and maintaining a rate of temperature increase between 1À6 and 3À3‹ C. per minute during the heating of the coal while in the range 350‹ to 550‹ C. The coal may be preheated to between 160‹ and 250‹ C. before being charged into the coking oven. The coking oven may have a width of at least 500 mm. and may have stretchers formed of a refractory composition containing silica or of a calcined magnesite refractory composition.
