Abstract

1424732 Electro-depositing metals on glass SAINT-GOBAIN INDUSTRIES 1 June 1973 [1 June 1972] 26234/73 Heading C7B A glass body e.g. window pane 1 having an edge is provided with a layer 2 of Ag enamel baked to at least part of its surface adjacent the edge, and successive electro-deposited layers 3, 4, 5 of bright Cu, Ni and Cr superposed on the enamel layer. The Cu and Ni layers may be each 3 to 15 microns thick, and the Cr layer not more than 1 micron thick. The width of the layers forming ornamental band A may be from 1 to 3 cm. The layers may be on one side surface only of the body, or both surfaces around at least part of the edge (Fig. 3). The Ag enamel may be 3 to 6 microns thick and formed from a paste of 90% finely divided Ag and 10% glass frit. The baked enamel may be polished before electro-deposition. A coloured coating of lacquer may be provided on the surface opposite the layers. Current feed tabs may be connected to the Ag enamel at intervals along its length.
