Abstract

1424116 Preparation of 0,0-diethyl-0-1- (2,4 - dichlorophenyl) - 2,2 - dibromovinyl phosphate INSTYTUT PRZEMYSLU ORGANICZNEGO WARSZAWA 23 July 1973 [1 Aug 1972 21 Nov 1972] 35100/73 Headings C2P and C2C The compound (I) is obtained by condensing triethyl phosphite with 2,2,2 - tribromo - 2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - dichloroacetophenone (II). The reaction may be carried out in the presence or absence of an organic solvent. The process may be effected in two successive stages in a single apparatus by first preparing the tribromo compound (II) by bromination of 2,4-dichloroacetophenone (as described below) in a solvent and then condensing the product with triethyl phosphite in the same apparatus preferably at elevated temperature, e.g. 90- 100‹ C. The product has pesticidal properties and may be used as active ingredient in conventional pesticidal compositions which may also contain other pesticides, plant growth regulators, synergistic agents or insect attractants. 2,2,2 - Tribromo - 2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - dichloroacetophenone which is stated to be novel is obtained by exhaustive bromination of the side chain of 2,4 - dichloroacetophenone, 2,2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - bromodichloroacetophenone or 2,2,2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - dibromodichloroacetophenone in the presence of an alkali metal salt or ammonium salt of a lower alkane carboxylic acid, especially sodium acetate or ammonium acetate. A detailed example is given using 2,4-dichloroacetophenone.
