Abstract

1424068 Coaxial cable joint STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 10 April 1973 17122/73 Heading H2E Two coaxial cables have their inner conductors 1a, 1b joined by a crimped sleeve 2 and their outer conductors 4a, 4b by a plurality of shells 7x, 7y which form a tubular enclosure having a diameter at midsection larger than at its ends, the ends encircling the outer conductors, there being a reinforcing sleeve 5a, 5b positioned between the outer conductors and the cable insulations 6a, 6b, the ends being encircled by crimped sleeves 3a, 3b which hold the shells in place on the cables. The sleeve 2, which has an indented inner surface, is surrounded by a spacer comprising stripped-off cable insulation. The mid- and end-diameters of the shells are adapted to maintain the cable impedance across the joint and are of pressed copper tape; they may comprise different diameter tubes butted together and welded, soldered or brazed. The point may be enclosed in a steel tube (not shown) joined to any cable screening (not shown); insulation (not shown) may be applied over the tube and exposed core.
