Abstract

1422962 Aircraft arrester gear DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 31 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 29912/75 Divided out of 1422961 Heading B7G [Also in Division F2] An energy absorption device comprises a plurality of coaxial shafts. 66, 69 rotationally supported by a container 60, drums 76, 77 fixed one. to each shaft outside the container and rotors 68, 74 fixed one to each shaft inside the container the rotors carrying substantially flat vanes 75 and the container carrying substantially flat stator vanes 65, and the container in use containing hydraulic fluid for interacting with the vanes to impart a drag to said drums during rotation thereof. The stator vanes are fixed to stators 62, 63, 64, of which 62 and 64 may be moved axially by rotation of sleeve 80, 81 which engages threaded projections 79 on the stators. There are preferably two drums, shafts and rotors, and preferably each rotor has one vane more or less than the corresponding stator. A rewind motor may be provided. The drums may carry tapes connected to aircraft arrester gear, as described and claimed in Specification 1,422,961.
