Abstract

1422710 Boxes WILKIE & PAUL Ltd 14 Feb 1974 [22 Feb 1973] 8681/73 Heading B8P A packaging arrangement comprises a plastics article-receiving tray 10 having an inverted U- shaped side wall 18, a plastics base tray 11 supporting the bottom and side wall of the tray 10 and having reinforcing formations, and a plastics cover 12. As shown, the tray 10 is of oval configuration and is formed with a plurality chocolate-receiving recesses 13, which are supported on ribs 29 upstanding from a corrugated bottom of the base tray 11. The latter has inner and outer spaced peripheral walls 21 and 22, joined at their tops by a corrugated rim 24. The outer wall 22 frictionally engages the inner surface of the outer wall portion of the tray side wall 18 and the inner wall 21 is reinforced by radial ribs 30. The cover has a skirt 33, which frictionally engages projections 20 on the side wall 18. In another embodiment, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the article-receiving tray 50, the base tray 41 and cover 42 are of rectangular configuration, and the base tray is provided with reinforcing ribs 43, 44 and with reinforcing corner buttresses or pillars 49 which frictionally co-operate with like pillars 54 and 57 on the tray 50 and the cover. In a further embodiment, Fig. 6 (not shown), the articlereceiving tray has an undulating bottom, which defines grooves 63 and which is supported by a similarly configured bottom of the base tray. The cover has a corresponding shape to define article-receiving recesses with the tray grooves 63. In the embodiment of Figs. 7-9 (not shown), the article-receiving tray 80 and cover 82 simulate a cottage, and the base tray 81 is provided with interrupted spaced inner and outer peripheral reinforcing ribs 91 and 92 and transverse bottom reinforcing ribs 94 which cooperate internally with transverse bottom ribs 90 on the tray 80.
