Abstract

1422775 Measuring angular position electrically LUCAS ELECTRICAL CO Ltd 5 Feb 1973 [25 Feb 1972] 8925/72 Heading G1N [Also in Division G3] A fuel injection system for the engine of a vehicle comprises a throttle angle transducer which includes a linear potentiometer 15 operated by the throttle pedal of the vehicle and an oscillator 16 whose period varies linearly with throttle position, the frequency of the oscillator thereby being a non-linear function of the throttle position such that it changes more rapidly at small throttle angles than at large throttle angles, and means sensitive to the transducer output for varying the quantity of fuel injected. As shown, the oscillator 16 is connected to a counter 17 which is reset and has its count transferred to a latching counter 17 at the beginning of each period of a fixed frequency oscillator 18, the counter 17 also being reset by a logic circuit 21 after a pre-set number of pulses have been counted, so that the number transferred to counter 13 equals the total number of pulses counted during a period of oscillator 18 minus the pre-set number. The counter 13 is connected to a memory 11 which receives the output of a transducer 12 representing either engine speed or manifold depression. The memory 11 determines the amount of fuel to be injected by apparatus 14.
