Abstract

1422023 Taking up slack in flexible elements GOYO-BALLAST CO Ltd 29 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 4343/73 Heading B8B [Also in Divisions E1-E2 and B7] Support means between a vessel 1 and a suction dredging nozzle 6 comprises a lifting cable 10 passing over a pulley 11, a support cable 14 for the pulley 11, and means for adjusting the length of cable 14, e.g. a hydropneumatic tension relieving mechanism 16. The cable 14 passes over a pulley 34 which is mounted on a piston movable within an hydraulic cylinder 27 in response to changes in cable tension. The fluid in the cylinder acts against air 31 trapped in tank 30. As shown a flexible suction conduit is used but in other embodiments a two linked rigid sections form the conduit and are pivoted to the nozzle-two cables 10 are secured to the nozzle and a further cable (associated with a mechanism 16) supports the conduit. In one embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) each cable 10 has its associated cable 14 and mechanism 16, in the other embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown) both cables 10 are associated with a single cable 14 and mechanism 16.
