Abstract

1422082 Vapour generators SULZER BROS Ltd 9 Jan 1974 [9 Jan 1973] 01107/74 Heading F4A A vapour generator, of the type in which a U-tube bundle 12 for heating fluid (e.g. pressurized water) extends upwardly from a tube plate 1 within a pressure vessel 10 into which liquid to be vaporized (e.g. water) is introduced, has a dividing wall 20 located between the lower parts of the hot tube branches 8 and of the cold tube branches 9, a liquid inlet which directs liquid toward the tube sheet in the region of the cold tube branches, and means 45 for breaking up the flow of liquid into part flows as it rises over the hot tube branches. A cylindrical wall 16 is arranged around the tubes and a sheet 45 with oversize holes for tubes is welded between this wall and the wall 20. Liquid from external pump 11 is passed into box 21 then via holes 30 to a distributing chamber 31 and through oversize tube receiving holes in plates 32, 33, 37, 38 upwardly and downwardly over the cold branch tubes. Between plates 32, 37 and 33, 38 are provided elements 36 (Fig. 4) and 35 which are mounted in the spaces between the tubes to confine the liquid adjacent the tubes for preheating. A small proportion of inlet liquid is fed directly into the annular space between the vessel 10 and the wall 16 by means not shown. A blind hole 48 is provided in the centre of the tube plate (Fig. 5) which is linked by a slanting bore 49 to a conduit 50 which is used for removing sludge.
