Abstract
1421668 Aerating and agitating liquids BARVIEW DEVELOPMENTS LTD and D V BARRETT 21 Oct 1974 [17 Aug 1973] 38924/ 73 Heading B1C In a method of biologically treating effluent it is supplied with air to the upper part of a vertical elongate chamber and moved downwards to an outlet with increasing velocity. In Fig. 1 a draft tube immersed in effluent has upper and lower parts 1, 8 of greater and less cross-section, and an impeller 4 draws effluent through inlets 2 and moves it down to an outlet 9. Air is drawn through inlets 10 and reaches the impeller turbulent zone through passages in the bearing 11. There is a conical baffle 3, plane baffles 6, 7 to prevent bodily rotation of the liquid, and a cruciform outlet baffle. Additional air may be supplied through a diffuser 12. In a modification (see Fig. 2, not shown) the conical baffle 3 is replaced by a plane horizontal baffle, through apertures in which depend air inlet tubes (14).
