Abstract

1421430 Planetary cooler of a rotary tube furnace POLYSIUS AG 31 Aug 1973 [28 Feb 1973] 60254/73 Heading F4B A planetary cooler has cooling tubes 2, 2<SP>1</SP> mounted on the periphery of a rotary tube furnace 1 by means of individual holders. Gaps 8 between the holders permit thermal expansion of the tubes and their holders in the peripheral direction of the furnace. To reduce forces which occur at the joints between the holders and the rotary furnace caused by the weight of the cooling tubes, interfitting abutments are provided between each of the holders of adjacent cooling tubes. The abutments comprise members 9, 10, 11 and wedges 12-15, Fig. 2. Members 9 and 11 are mounted on one holder and member 10 on an adjacent holder. The abutments restrain relative radial movement between adjacent holders but allow thermal expansion in the peripheral direction. Each holder is clamplike, being formed of inner and outer members 4 and 5 joined at 6 and 7.
