Abstract

1421011 Rubber blends ASHLAND OIL Inc 28 March 1973 [24 Oct 1972] 14991/73 Heading C3Q A non-horny extended natural rubber blend comprises a natural latex rubber and an extender rubber blended therewith, the blend having dispersed therein 40 to 125 parts of particulate carbon black per 100 parts of latex rubber and exhibiting a carbon black dispersion of greater than 90% as measured by ASTM D-2653-67T. The blend may be formed by coagulating a natural rubber latex and carbon black, preferably by the process disclosed in Specification 1,421,012 drying the coagulum to a moisture content above about 10% and blending it with the extender rubber for a time sufficient to achieve the said carbon black dispersion value. Examples are given in which natural rubber/carbon black crumb masterbatches are blended with cup lump rubber or premasticated dried smoked sheet.
