Abstract
1420586 Charging batteries BOLIDEN AB 8 July 1974 [13 July 1973] 30085/74 Heading H2H Apparatus for charging a battery B comprises a charging source 5, the state of charge of the battery being indicated by the generation of gas during charging, an indication of the gas generation being provided by differentiating with respect to time in a differentiator 1, the terminal voltage of the battery, differentiating with respect to time in a second differentiator 2, the derivative obtained by the differentiator 1, rectifying the output of the differentiator 2 by a rectifier 3 to obtain a D.C. voltage which is filtered in a filter 4. The filtered D.C. voltage is a measure of the amount of gas generated in the battery and the level of this voltage is sensed by a device 6 the output of which is used to control the charging source 5 such that the level of gas generation by the battery during charging is maintained at a predetermined constant low level.
