Abstract

1420385 Container barge LYKES BROS STEAMSHIP CO Inc 14 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 12187/73 Heading B7A In a barge 10 having a hold 12 for transporting containers AC the longitudinally extending sidewalls 24, 26 of the hold are spaced apart a distance a little greater than the length of the containers. The barge has sockets 42 in the sidewalls for releasably receiving pedestals 40 on which the containers are supported, a pair of sockets being spaced apart along the length of each sidewall at a distance corresponding to the width of each container. Instead of or as well as the sockets the barge may have releasable support beams EB and CB which support at least one horizontal tier of containers LC above the deck 13 of the barge.
