Abstract

1420364 Delivering measured quantities of powder PERRY INDUSTRIES Inc 26 April 1973 19968/73 Heading B8N Measured quantities of dry powder are dispensed from a cavity 21 by applying suction and pressure to one side of a foraminous membrane 2 made from a piece of woven synthetic fibre. The membrane 2 may be mounted on a filter element 1 having an interengaging portion 4 which permits quick-change replacement when moved out of its cylinder housing 12. The membrane 2 may be made of woven fibres of nylon, polyester, rayon or acetate and heatwelded to the filter element under tension. In operation, the open end of the cylinder housing 12 is introduced into a bed of powder and a vacuum applied to draw and maintain a measured quantity of powder within the cavity 21. The cylinder housing is then withdrawn and positioned over a container which receives the powder when the vacuum is terminated and a pressure applied. To change the filter element 1 a coupling 15 attached to the cylinder housing is rotated to cause the downward movement of the air suction and supply tube 9 and an attachment element 6 which is welded to its lower end. Upon reaching the lower end of the cylinder housing 12, the filter element 1 can be readily removed from the attachment element 6.
