Abstract

1420356 Exhaust silencers STEEL-GRIP Mfg CO Inc R T FLUGGER and R W MACKEY 27 Feb 1973 9627/73 Heading F1B A silencer comprises outer and inner tubular casings 12, 30, Fig.1 forming a tubular space for receiving sound absorbing material, an inlet tube 14 having a tapering cross-section leading to a throat 18 extending into the inner casing, an abutment 26 aligned with the throat to deflect fluid passing through the throat from a direct path into an exhaust tube 16 into the tubular space, the exhaust tube merging with an inner portion 22 having perforations 24 to receive the deflected fluid from the tubular space. In another embodiment the throat 63, Fig.5 is joined to the abutment 68 by a perforate tube 58. In a further embodiment the tapering section 86, Fig.3 has holes 102 feeding fluid to the tubular space.
