Abstract

1419820 Fenders SCHLEGEL GmbH 20 Aug 1973 [21 Aug 1972] 39297/73 Heading B7S [Also in Division B5] A fender comprises a rigid metal plate 1 to which is bonded an overlay 4 of plastics material having thickness of at least 5 cms. and a hardness of at least Shore D40 and at least 80% of the volume of the overlay is a polyolefin, preferably polyethylene. Preferably the thickness of the overlay is not more than 12 cms., e.g. 8 ems. To facilitate adhesion the plate 1 has recesses 2. A rib or ribs 3 is attached to the plate 1 and has apertures 5 for connecting the fender to a structure, e.g. a pier. A shock absorbing device may be located between the plate 1 and the structure. A method of manufacturing is disclosed and claimed (see Division B5).
