Abstract

1419714 Mineral-mining machines SALZGITTER MASCHINEN AG 5 March 1973 [9 March 1972] 10648/73 Addition to 1359204 Heading E1F A cutter assembly for a mineral-mining machine comprises a cutting head, e.g. a frustro-conically or cylindrically shaped head, rotatably mounted by bearing means on a single arm, cutting head carrier, e.g. a jib or boom, or an extension 17 thereof and drive means including a rotary, hydraulically powered motor 30 mounted on the carrier to extend at least partially into the head, which is non-rotatably connected to the output shaft 37 of the drive means. Preferably the drive means is arranged wholly or partially within a cup secured through a flange to the carrier or the extension and at its other end to the housing of the drive means. The bearing means can be a combined radial and axial bearing. The connection between the output shaft of the drive means may be such, e.g. sleeves 43 or an arcuate toothed coupling, as to be positive but allow of inclination between the axes of rotation of the shaft and the head as the head meets variable resistance from mineral as the mineral is cut by the 'head.
