Abstract
1418671 Pourable liquid detergent compositions UNILEVER Ltd 7 Jan 1974 [26 Oct 1972] 49430/72 Heading C5D A pourable liquid composition comprises an aqueous medium containing a three-dimensional network of entangled filaments and particulate solid dispersed in the medium and prevented from separating from the medium by the filament network. The composition is pourable after storage without the application of shear forces other than gravity. The yield stress value is preferably 1 to 21 dynes/cm.<SP>2</SP> at 20‹ C. The aqueous medium may have a viscosity at 20‹ C. of from 1 to 60 poise at a shear rate of 7 sec.<SP>-1</SP>. The amount of filament present is within the range of from (d f -¥) to (5df-¢) per cent wt., where df is the density of the filamentary material. The filamentary material may be (a) preformed, e.g. asbestos and cellulose fibres, or (b) formed in situ by cooling a solution of the filamentary material in the liquid phase of the aqueous medium at its boiling point, e.g. soaps especially sodium salts of saturated C 14 to C 22 fatty acids, used in quantities of 0À5 to 2À5% by wt. of the aqueous medium. The composition may be a detergent composition containing abrasives. Soap is used as filamentary material. The aqueous medium contains an anionic surfactant which is preferably a C 12 -C 18 alkyl sulphate in admixture with a trialkylamine oxide, trialkyl phosphine oxide or dialkylsulphoxide surfactant and an electrolyte with a mono- or divalent cation, in such amounts that the aqueous medium has a viscosity at 20‹ C. of 1 to 60 poise at a shear rate of 7 sec.-<SP>1</SP>. The electrolyte is one usually used in detergent compositions, e.g. sodium triphosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium carbonate, sodium sulphate, sodium hypochlorite, sodium hydroxide, sodium sulphate and calcium chloride. Sodium hypochlorite bleach may be present in amounts of 0À02 to 5% when the pH must be above 9À8. The abrasives may be calcite, dolomite, felspar, diatomaceous earth, tale, bentonite, pumice, alumina and silica. The particulate solid may be a pigment or an encapsulated bleach, solvent, perfume or dye. Suitable detergent solutions are those of Specifications 1,167,597, 1,181,607, 1,262,280 and 1,308,190.
