Abstract

1418438 Supporting tools ATLAS COPCO AB 27 Feb 1974 [28 Feb 1973] 8838/74 Heading B4C A power tool is supported on an arm 16 which is movable about two mutually perpendicular axes the arm 16 being movable longitudinally by a feed jack 12 and is provided with means such as a balance block 22 to at least partially offset the weight of the tool. As shown in Fig. 1 the arm 16 is supported to be rotatable about pivot pins 18, 19. The piston and cylinder 12 is double acting and pneumatic and the tool is pneumatically driven and supported for rotation about its longitudinal axis by means of a ball race 24 pivotally mounted at the end of the arm 16. The tool bit may be spring held in position in the tool and pneumatically releasable and the ball race 24 may be pneumatically locked against rotation. Several modifications of the overhead mounting may be provided and one (Fig. 5) may include a pneumatically releasable spring actuated disc brake to hold the drill supporting arm in a fixed angular position about its vertical axis. The support block 22 may be replaced by a pneumatic supporting ram 70 and a support block 73 similar to that shown at 22 may be provided with a support wire 74 to support only the tool on the arm.
