Abstract
1418289 Box girders BRITISH STEEL CORP 30 Nov 1972 [3 Dec 1971] 56284/71 Headings E1K and E1W A box girder for use in a composite structure involving concrete is provided with elongate strengthening means embedded in the concrete. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 bulb flats 32 are welded along the top of the girder, annular inner diaphragms 38 are employed. together with triangular gusset plates 39 immediately under members 32, which may be replaced by flats, angle-sections, T-sections, I-sections or trough-sections. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, the strengthening members 44 are fixed inside the girder. In the embodiment of Fig. 6 the end wall 52 and a diaphragm 54 are strengthened by members 58 and concrete 51 is poured into the end box so formed. Further strengthening members 60 may be employed as in Fig. 3.
