Abstract
1418189 Recirculating IC engine exhaust gases TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP 8 May 1973 [2 June 1972] 21761/73 Heading F1B Exhaust gases are mixed with combustion air in a mixer 30 and the mixture is drawn into the combustion chamber 36 for combustion with injected liquid or gaseous fuel. The recirculated exhaust gases flow through an air or water cooled heat exchanger 18, a by-pass valve 25 and a valve 24, when open, to the mixer 30. The mixture from the mixer 30 flows through a valve 47, when open at idling or deceleration, and past a valve 33 to the chamber 36. The valves 24 and 33 are linked to be controlled with the fuel pump 39 by the accelerator pedal 42. The recirculated exhaust gases comprises between 10 and 30% of the mixture flowing to the engine and the temperature of the exhaust gas from the exchanger 18 will be between 100 and 140‹F. A valve 43 downstream of a catalytic silencer 16 controls exhaust back pressure and a spark plug 35 ignites the fuel and air/gas mixture in the chamber 36.
