1415998 Endless chain conveyers; unloading bulk material from ships J PRADON 21 May 1974 [6 June 1973] 22705/74 Headings B8A and B8E Material from a conveyer 24 which discharges into a shoot 25, is fed into U-shaped elements 2 of a descending run of an endless chain conveyer 1. Each element 2 is closed by plates 8 of an endless chain conveyer 7. Each plate 8 is engaged by fastening catches 18 carried by the ends of the U-shaped sides of the members 2, by the action of cam members 33 and followers 21 (Fig. 3, not shown). The material falls from the base of the conveyer 1 on to the surface of a horizontal conveyer 28. The shoot 25, conveyer 24, and guide sprockets 10, 11, of the conveyer 7, may vary in vertical position, according to the changes in height of apparatus feeding the conveyer 24. In a modification, the shoot 25 is fixed. The catches 18 are then replaced by fixed ramps, which bring about the engagement of the plates 8 with the conveyer elements 2. In a further modification (not shown) the plates 8 instead of being carried by a conveyer 7, may be directly hinged to respective elements 2. As applied to the unloading of a ship (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), material is fed from the hold of the ship by a vertical elevator (38) which transfers the material to a conveyer (40) carried by a horizontal boom. The conveyer (40) corresponds to the conveyer 24 of Fig. 1, and the apparatus of Fig. 1 is carried on a trolley movable along the side of the dock in which the ship is berthed.
