Abstract

1414273 Locks ADAMS RITE MFG CO 7 Jan 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 00661/74 Heading E2A [Also in Division F2] A burglar proof shield for a door lock having a locking mechanism supported in a frame structure mounted within a tubular stile of a door assembly and a lock cylinder disposed in an opening in a wall of the stile comprises a sleeve 30 for surrounding the lock cylinder and having a radially enlarged outer end portion for abutting an outer surface of the wall 11 and for providing a guard ring around the outer end of the lock cylinder and an inner end portion for projecting beyond the inner surface of the wall and surrounding an inner end portion of the lock cylinder and a retainer 38 for positioning between the stile wall 11 and an adjacent wall 16 of the lock frame structure having holding engagement with the inner projecting end portion of the sleeve to hold the sleeve to the wall 11 independently of the lock cylinder, the sleeve thus protecting the lock cylinder against tampering both at the outside and the inside of the wall 11. As shown the sleeve 30 has a groove 35 in which the retainer 38 engages when the lock cylinder 20 is screwed into a hole in the wall 11a. The retainer has a snap ring portion 39, and wing portions 42 for protecting parts of the locking mechanism. A spring washer 44 is interposed between the wall 11 and the retainer or sleeve.
