Abstract
1414243 Shampoo composition COLGATEPALMOLIVE CO 10 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 47359/73 Heading C5D Shampoo compositions comprise: (a) a lower polar phase which comprises amphoteric and cationic surfactants, water and a C 2 to C 4 alkanol and (b) an upper stable emulsion phase comprising a major proportion of hydrocarbon oil. The amphoteric surfactant may be a C 10 -C 18 alkyl amino C 2 -C 6 alkanoic acid, and the cationic surfactant may be a quaternary ammonium compound which contains at least two C 1 -C 4 alkyl groups and at least one C 10 -C 18 alkyl group or a benzyl group. The polar phase may also include a C 10 -C 18 alkyl di C 1 -C 6 alkyl amine oxide, a C 10 -C 18 fatty acid alkanolamide and a sequestrant such as citric acid. The hydrocarbon oil of the emulsion phase may be a saturated light mineral oil, but minor amounts of vegetable oil, such as olive oil, may also be used. Hydrolysed protein, perfume, fluorescent brighteners and dyes may also be present. The compositions are prepared in homogeneous form and phase separation may take place during storage.
