Abstract
1413548 Chlorination of butadiene BAYER AG 13 July 1973 [14 July 1972] 33437/73 Heading C2C 3,4 - Dichloro - 1 - butene; 1,4 - dichloro- 1-butene and 1,4-dichloro-2-butene are obtained by introducing chlorine and butadiene simultaneously at a temperature below 50‹ C. into a chlorinated organic solvent and separating off the reaction products by distillation. The solvent is preferably 3,4-dichloro-l-butene; 1,4- dichloro-1-butene and/or 1,4-dichloro-2-butene and the reaction products may be distilled off under reduced pressure using the heat of reaction. The use of a stoichiometric excess of butadiene up to a 4 : 1 ratio with Cl 2 prevents excessive by-product formation.
