Abstract
1412210 Liquid heaters TECHNICON INSTRUMENT CORP 24 April 1973 [7 June 1972] 19466/73 Heading F4A [Also in Division G1] In a temperature controlled fluid manifold for an automated fluid-analyzer (e.g. a bloodsampling unit) a heater plate 14 of good thermal conductivity is mounted on a thermally insulated support 10 and at least one passageway portion 24, 26 is encapsulated in a heat retaining material secured to the heater plate 14 so that heat is transfered by conduction from the plate to the material and a cover 18 extends with clearance over the passageway portions 24, 26 to prevent loss of heat by convection. A thermostatically-controlled heater 18 regulates the heating to the plate 14 to control the temperature of the manifold to approximately 37F. As shown in Figure 1 there are two fluid passageway portions 24 and 26 made of glass and encapsulated in lead. Two fluid analyzers 48, 62 supported on the heater plate 14 are in fluid communication with each other. Utilising optical fibre assemblies 54 and 56, the stream of fluid in the passage 50 of the flow coil 48 is analyzed colorimetrically or by a spectral flame photometer at a location remote from the manifold and the signal from the colorimeter (not shown) is suitably displayed A similar optical fibre assembly 64, 66 is associated with the other fluid analyzer 62.
