Abstract

1411899 Reciprocating saws J DE LANAUZE 29 Nov 1973 [11 Dec 1972] 55408/73 Heading B5L A machine for sawing slots in curved die boards comprises a shaft 18, Fig. 1, means for supporting a board 3 coaxial with the shaft 18, a collar 28, Fig. 4, freely mounted on the shaft, a reciprocable saw assembly 36 mounted on the collar and movable radially between an inner inoperative position and an outer operative position, Fig. 4, a cylindrical guide 30 coaxial with the shaft and connected to the collar 28 and positioned radially outward of the board, and a radial guide 58 for a saw blade 68 of the saw 36 mounted on the guide 30 for receiving and guiding the blade 68 and for directing the blade in any direction in accordance with a pattern to be cut in the die board. In operation the saw assembly 36 is moved along guides 40, 42 to its inoperative position by an hydraulic or pneumatic rotary motor actuating a mechanical linkage. A board 3 to be cut is then secured to adjustable mounts 20, Fig. 1, on the shaft 18. The board has predrilled holes at the starts of cutting lines. Such a hole is located above the saw blade and the saw assembly is moved to its radially outward operative position in which the blade 68, Fig. 5, passes through the hole and enters a guide slot 66 in a handle 64 and integral disc 60. The disc is rotatable in a guide 62 secured to the guide 30 so that it can be turned to orient the saw blade 68 in a selected position by the handle 64. After cutting, the saw assembly is withdrawn and the cutting operation repeated for a further slot if required.
