Abstract

1411142 Removing SO 2 from gases KOPPERS CO Inc 3 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 49112/73 Divided out of 1411141 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] SO 2 is removed from Claus process tail gas by scrubbing the gas with an aq. NH 3 soln. thereby forming ammonium sulphite. The NH 3 may be derived from the washing of coke oven gas. The Claus process may be that used to convert the H 2 S removed from a washed coke oven gas using an aq. Na 2 CO 3 soln. The gas from the NH 3 scrubber may be mixed with coke oven gas prior to or after the washing steps to remove NH 3 .
