Abstract

1411074 Hop extracts ASAHI BREWERIES Ltd 11 July 1974 [18 July 1973] 30793/74 Heading C6E Lupulin-rich hop product is obtained by freezing and breaking hops, passing the frozen and broken hops over and through a shaking screen while blowing a stream of gas from below upwards through the screen, and collecting the lupulin-rich hop product which passes through the screen. Hops broken down in a hammer mill at a temperature of -20‹C are passed over and through a shaking screen of 20-100 mesh Tyler, under the influence of a classifying upward flow of air, carbon dioxide or nitrogen at a velocity of 5-15 metres/minutes. The 'over' fraction may again be frozen, crushed and screened, without applying the gas stream, to recover further lupulin-rich product.
