Abstract
1409809 Electromagnetic contactors; automatic circuit breakers MERLIN GERIN 23 Oct 1972 [25 Oct 1971] 48662/72 Heading H1N An electromagnetic contactor having trip free motion transmitting means connecting its armature 18 to its movable contact 10 also has lost-motion means which provides lostmotion between the armature 18 and contact 10 on de-energization of the coil 20 so that the contact 10 is actuated with a striking energy derived from the kinetic energy acquired by the armature during the lost-motion. With the contacts closed as in Fig. 1, a flat spring 26 acts as a solid link so that on de-energization of the coil 20 members 24 and 16 are moved upward together by a spring 38 until the faces 44, on the slide 16 attached to the armature 18, engage the contact bridge 10 to open the contacts. Under fault conditions a force 4 is applied to the spring 26 causing distortion thereof (Fig. 3, not shown) and allowing spring 38 to move the member 24 and open the contacts. The arrangement shown in Fig. 4, operates in a similar manner but the spring 26 is replaced by a latch 48.
