Abstract

1409643 Packaging JOHNS-MANVILLE CORP 31 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 60253/73 Heading B8C A method of packaging an axially collapsible duct 36 comprises inserting the duct into a tube 22, placing an open end of a bag over the tube, compressing and ejecting the duct into the bag, and closing and fastening the bag while the duct is compressed. The duct is compressed and ejected by a ram 40 driven by an hydraulic or pneumatic drive through a shaft 42. The shaft is hollow and connected to a vacuum pump to evacuate the bag being filled. The ram pushes the duct beyond the end of the tube and is there withdrawn so that the evacuated bag necks between the duct and tube. The necked portion is twisted and then clipped or otherwise fastened. In a modification the ram may have through passageways normally closed at the 'rear by a flexible sheet but which permit air to pass from the duct during initial movement of the ram.
