Abstract

1409508 Polyethylene compositions IDEMITSU KOSAN KK 29 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55394/73 Heading C3P Compositions comprise (a) a high density ethylene polymer having a viscosity-average molecular weight of 10 x 10<SP>4</SP> to 20 x 10<SP>4</SP>, a number average molecular weight of at least I x 10<SP>4</SP> and a ratio between weight average molecular weight and number average molecular weight of 20 or less, and (b) at least one of calcium sulphite, calcium sulphate and calcium carbonate. The polymer may be a homopolymer or copolymer with minor proportions of propylene, butene or hexene. The calcium compound preferably has a particle size of 0À1 to 10 microns. The compositions may also comprise a further high density polyethylene of melt index 0À1 to 1À0, and a lubricant, e.g. C 10-20 fatty acid metal salts, waxes, C 10-20 alcohols, C 10-20 fatty acid esters of polyhydric alcohols or polyethylene glycol, and C 10-20 fatty acid amides. The compositions have good processability and tear resistance and may be made into films and sheets e.g. by calendering.
