Abstract

1409228 Change-speed gear FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 29 March 1974 [17 April 1973] 13942/74 Heading F2D In a four-speed and one reverse gear or a motor-vehicle, wherein 1-2, 3-4 and reverse shift forks 5, 4, 6 are selected by a finger 3 on a gate-lever-operated single selector shaft 2, which is turned to select and subsequently moved axially in either direction to establish the pre-selected ratio, and an axially fixed interlock plate 10 pivots along with the turning movement of the selector shaft 2, the upper limb 11 of the interlock plate 10 has a cam surface 16 which, when the selector shaft 2 is turned to select the reverse shift fork 6, engages the 3-4 shift fork 4 and shifts the latter axially sufficient to engage the synchronizing cone 14 of the fourth ratio, thereby braking the output shaft to rest for synchronizing the subsequent establishment of reverse. The cam 16 may have both rise and fall to release the synchronizing cone 14 before the reverse establishment movement is commenced.
