Abstract

1408035 Wells &c SUBSEA EQUIPMENT ASSOCIATES LTD 7 Sept 1972 [27 Dec 1971] 41554/72 Heading E1F A method of installing on a submerged guide and supporting structure 1 under water equipment divided into a first unit 61, Fig 5, and a second unit 26, Fig 7, comprises lowering the first unit 61 from a surface support onto the structure 1 by means of a manipulator 7, lowering the second unit 26 from the surface support onto the first unit by means of the or a further manipulator, and connecting the second unit to the first unit by actuation of hydraulic locking means 26a. The manipulator 7 is connected to the surface suport by means of a riser (6), Fig 2 (not shown). In the embodiment shown in Fig 5 a guide unit is lowered on to the structure 1 before the lowering of the first unit 61, the guide unit having a plate 64 which is supported on a flange 12 of a connector 10. The first unit is then either lowered by means of a bell (not shown) which comes to rest on an annular surface 65 and defines therewith a water-tight chamber for a working crew, or by means of a tool-carrier frame 30 attached to the end of the riser (6) and controlled by the remote-controlled manipulator 7. Following installation of the unit 61, the second unit 26 is lowered on to the first unit using the frame 30 and manipulator 7, and the two units are locked together. Operation of the units is checked before withdrawal of the frame 30. The connector 10, first unit 61, second unit 26 and operational control of the units are fully described in Specification 1399028.
