Abstract
1408040 Electrostatic separation GULF RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO 28 Sept 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 44817/72 Heading B2J A filter for removing electrically conductive suspended particles from oil comprises an earthed hollow cylinder 10 having an inlet 18 and an outlet 20 for the oil; a central electrode 12 connected to a high voltage a.c. or d.c. supply; and a mass of substantially non-porous and substantially non-deformable particles 16, e.g. glass beads, having a high electrical resistivity or a high dielectric constant. The arrangement is such that, in use, a high gradient non-uniform electric field is established between the electrode 12 and the cylinder 10, whilst the oil to be treated flows through the interstitial spaces defined by the particles 16.
