Abstract
1406860 Disazo pigments SANDOZ Ltd 18 Dec 1972 [22 Dec 1971] 58269/72 Heading C4P Novel disazo pigments of the formula wherein R 1 is 1,4- or 1,5-naphthylene or a radical of the formula (in which R 3 and R 4 are each H, Cl, Br, CH 3 or OCH 3 ), each R 2 is C 1-8 alkyl, C 5-7 cycloalkyl, (C 1-4 alkyl)-(C 5-7 cycloalkyl) or phenyl and each X is Cl, Br or F, are prepared by (i) forming compounds of the formula by conventional diazotization and coupling, and reacting these, or functional derivatives thereof, e.g. the acid chloride, prepared from the free acid and SOCl 2 , with appropriate diamines H 2 N-R 1 -NH 2 ; or (ii) reacting the said diamines with 2-hydroxynaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof and then coupling the product with the appropriate diazotized amine or amines. The pigments may subsequently be subjected to normal conditioning processes, e.g. salt grinding. The novel pigments may be used for colouring synthetic polymeric materials, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, in the mass, for dyeing paper in the stock, for pigment printing and coating textiles and for incorporation in printing inks.
