Abstract

1406185 Coated paper TH GOLDSCHMIDT AG 11 July 1973 [11 July 1972] 33151/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division B5] A paper sheet for application to the surface of a wood panel is produced by impregnating the sheet material with 25-100% 'by weight (based on the weight of paper) of an aminoplast resin and providing on the back an adhesive bonding layer comprising a mixture of 60-90% by weight of an aminoplast resin and 10-40% by weight of a copolymer of an acrylic acid ester and vinyl chloride. The paper sheet material may have already been provided with decorative figuring which after coating with the adhesive is then coated with a clear lacquer, or the paper may be bleached or unbleached, loaded or unloaded paper which after application of the adhesive is coated with a pigmented layer of lacquer. In an example. a bleached absorbent paper is impregnated with an aqueous solution of a urea resin, then coated with an adhesive comprising 40 parts aqueous urea resin solution, 40 parts of aqueous melamine resin solution, 0.3 parts N-methyl ethanol ammonium acetate (hardener), 20 parts of a dispersion of a vinyl chloride-butyl acrylate copolymer, and 0.1 parts of a wetting agent. The paper sheet material may be applied to the surface of a wood material panel, e.g. chipboard under elevated temperature at a pressure of 3-10 kp/cm<SP>2</SP>.
