Abstract

1404210 Measuring temperature electrically PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 20 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971 23 Oct 1972] 58746/72 Heading G1N [Also in Division F4] A circuit for controlling the operation of the defrost apparatus of a refrigerator has means for sensing, continuously or periodically, the temperature of a storage space and the temperature of the evaporator coil and the defrost apparatus is automatically started when the difference between the two temperatures exceeds a predetermined value, indicating an insulating layer of frost, and one of the sensed temperatures is less than a given value. The thermistors 36, 38 are in contact with the evaporator coil and in the frozen food chamber respectively. The thermistors are both connected in series with resistors 40, 49 between leads 42, 43 supplied with D.C. voltage by transformer 44, diode 45 and capacitor 48. The thermistors are connected to a switch 52 which responds when the temperature difference exceeds a given value.
