Abstract

1403925 Curable compositions CIBAGEIGYAG 10 Aug 1973 [1 Sept 1972] 40653/72 Heading C3R A curable composition comprises (i) an unsaturated ester of formula where a is at least 1, b is from 2 to 6, R is a radical free from any carbonyloxy group, having a valency b, which remains when b hydroxyl groups are removed from a polyhydric alcohol or a polyhydric phenol, the alkylene group has a chain of 2 to 6 carbon atoms between consecutive oxygen atoms and R<SP>1</SP> is -H or the monovalent residue of an alcohol after removal of an -OH group, and (ii) a polymercaptan having at least two mercaptan groups per molecule, the sum of the number of ethylenic double bonds in the unsaturated ester (i) and the number of mercaptan groups in the polymercaptan (ii) being more than 4 and the proportions of the materials (i) and (ii) being such that there are from 0À8 to 1À1 mercaptan groups per ethylenic double bond. The composition will cure at room temperature but may be heated to obtain a cured product; an accelerator may be added to the composition. Examples are given.
