Abstract
1403065 Drawing sheet glass GLAVERBEL 13 Oct 1972 [15 Oct 1971] 47400/72 Heading C1M In the continuous drawing of molten glass into a drawing chamber 19 in the form of a ribbon 18 which is then bent over a bending roller 27 and passed to a horizontal annealing lehr, relatively cold gas forming one or more natural gas currents, as arrowed, drawn into or descending in the drawing chamber 19 is continuously extracted from the chamber at a place or places located in the path of such current(s). As shown, ducts 30 and 31 have apertures facing respectively a down current adjacent an outer wall 28 and currents emanating from the bending roller 27 which is cooled internally. The duct 31 has the apertured side 32 of concave form to match the roller 27. In other embodiments, ducts are provided facing the annealing lehr below the ribbon (Fig. 1) or at the base of the coolers provided either side of the ribbon to cool the ribbon of glass, (Figs. 3 and 4).
